The
Turkish jewelry industry is now considered among the top echelon worldwide.
It has added contemporary production, design and marketing values to the
unmatched experience it has gained over thousands of years. It wasn't
that long ago that the Turkish industry was not on the list of jewelry
exporting countries. Now, with US$930 million of exports, Turkey has become
the second largest jewelry exporting country in the world. But, for the
Turkish industry, this is still not enough. The Turkish industry has even
higher aims. Its goal, in 10 years, is to become the biggest jewelry export
country in the world, with exports exceeding US$ 5 billion. The Turkish
industry has plans to share its 6 "Golden Standards" with the
world: Unique Heritage - Immense Variety - Flexible Production - Excellent
Finishing - Competitive Prices - and Shortest Deliver Time. The 21st edition of Istanbul International Jewelry, Silver, Watch and Equipment Fair, will be held over 08-11 September, 2005 at the Istanbul, CNR Expo Center, heralding the show as a twice a year event for the first time. www.rotaforte. com |

Frey Wille paying homage | ||
Frey
Wille, the Austrian brand jewellers, has dedicated an entire jewellery
collection to one of the greatest Austrian artists of the 20th century
-- the painter, architect and philosopher Friedensreich Hundertwasser. Both jewellery sets --"Spiral of Life" and "Street-rivers" -- capture the dreamscapes of this visionary painter and feature key design elements created by him. During his lifetime, Hundertwasser was considered to be a "World-Beautifier," and also a rebel. He became world renowned for his cheerful and colourful paintings of a paradise on earth. He believed that "beauty is a panacea." The Hundertwasser jewellery collection by Frey Wille is not only visually impressive — it is also homage to Hundertwasser's art in its own right. The Spiral of Life set is inspired by a main motif in Hundertwasser's artistic universe -- the spiral. For Hundertwasser, it was the symbol of life and death - the act of creation and destruction, because the spiral -- as opposed to the circle -- never returns to its own point of origin. Hundertwasser's "Spiral of Life" has a hypnotic effect upon the viewer. According to the artist, their meditative effects come directly from the subconscious. "I don't force the process, but rather let myself be led. Therefore I can make no mistake," said Hundertwasser, about his process of Vegetative painting. |

A
second set of jewellery designs in Frey Wille's new collection, "Street-rivers,"
draws its inspiration from Hundertwasser's other great passion -- next
to his painting -- architecture. His buildings are today among the most
frequently visited attractions in Europe. Architectural elements such as houses, windows, fences, and surrounding paths of streets, recur in Hundertwasser's paintings. Even things man-made appear organically produced, in harmony with nature. Hundertwasser views the house as a place of security and as a person's third skin - after one's own epidermis and clothing. Founded in Vienna in 1951, Frey Wills has a worldwide presence in a number of major fashion and jewellery centres, including London, Paris, Milan, Dubai, Tokyo Munich and Brussels. The company stands for decorative art jewellery. www. frey-wille. corn |

The
International Colored Gem-stone Association, headquartered in New York
City but operating additional "Gembureaus" from in Idar-Oberstein
and Israel, is the nonprofit trade association that represents the international
colored gemstone industry, a small but extremely important and influential
segment of the jewelry business. ICA boasts nearly 500 members, the greatest
concentration of which is in the USA, Thailand and India; additional members
are found throughout the world, from Europe to South America and from
China to Africa.
Bangkok, Thailand: February 22, 2005 - The International Colored Gem-stone Association (ICA) wrapped up its 11th biennial congress in Thailand yesterday. The congress, which took place February 18-21, was held at the Shangri-La Hotel in Bangkok and was hosted by the Thai Gem and Jewelry Traders Association (TGJTA). Each of the three days of congress sessions was presented as a separate module, with the first day dedicated to promoting colored gemstones on a global scale. The second day focused on supply and demand, and production and consumption, and the third day dealt with innovation, technology and challenges in the colored gemstone business of the 21st century. A highlight of the first day was the launch of a consumer marketing program, which will drive and increase demand for colored gemstones in the consumer market. A highlight of the second day was the announcement to the congress by Pomphile Rakotoarimanana, the director of mines and geology at the Ministry of Energy & Mines in Madagascar that, as of the start of the congress, his government would begin implementing a program to open the Madagascar colored gem-stone market to foreign buyers. The ICA Congress was also the venue for an important announcement on day three, when Jacques Voorhees, the CEO of Polygon, the world's first and largest jewelry and gemstone online trading network stated that, after years in the planning, Polygon was launching ColorNet, the first fully functional colored gemstone trading database. More than 200 representatives of the colored gemstone business from 36 countries worldwide, including miners, rough and polished gem dealers, gem-stone cutters, jewelry manufacturers and marketers, and service providers attended the congress in Bangkok. ICA is the only international body representing the entire colored gemstone community, from mine to market. "There are very few gatherings such as this one," said Joseph M. Menzie, the ICA president, during his opening address, "which brings together such a diverse and international a group of people, with so common a purpose. Our goal here in Bangkok is to project our project our professionalism, talent and knowledge through the distribution line, so that the sale of jewelry set with colored gemstones is given additional momentum in the consumer markets." The TGJTA, which organized a superbly executed congress, also proved to be generous host, offering the many overseas guests a social program thai highlighted Thailand's rich culture. The General Assembly of the ICA voted on the composition of the ICA Board of Directors for the coming two years. Joseph M. Menzie, DAS, was elected to a second term as ICA President.
