  Sotheby's Hong Kong Magnificent Jewels & Jadeite Spring sale 2010 totals US$52 million  
   
  A) 10ct briolette white diamond earrings from Sotheby's Magnificent Jewels and Jadeite Spring sale 2010
B)  This jadeite & diamond necklace sold for US$ 5.5 million at Sotheby's recent Hong Kong sale
C) The top lot from Sotheby's Hong Kong sales a diamond rivere necklace comprising 50 D-colour Internally Flawless white diamonds was sold at US$6.7 million to a private buyer from Hong Kong.
 
 
      Sotheby's Hong Kong recently held the "Magnificent Jewels and Jadeite Spring Sale 2010, "totaling US$52,408,045, achieving the highest total ever for a sale of this category conducted by Sotheby's Hong Kong. The sale total surpassed its estimate of US$47,413,415 - 59,587,248, the company said.

    The sale, Sotheby's said, was topped by a diamond riviere necklace comprising 50D - colour Internally Flawless white diamonds which commanded a price of US$6.7 million, after being estimated at US$4.1-5.1 million.
   

     Fierce bidding and competition was seen for a superb 5.16-carat pear-shaped Internally Flawless Fancy Vivid blue diamond from an important private collection - one of the 11 magnificent blue diamonds formerly in the legendary De Beers Millennium Jewels Collection - which fetched US$6.4 million, from an estimation of US$4.6-5.9 million - US$1.24 million per carat. Also, Sotheby's said, an exceptional jadeite and diamond necklace sold for US$5.5 million; estimated at US$4.9-6.4 million.



 
 
 
  D) This 5.16 carat pear shaped blue diamond from the De Beers Milliennium jewels Collector related US$6.4 million at Sotheby's sale.
E) This white diamond pendant of 33.31 carats was the object of vigorous competition from global bidders at the Hong Kong sale.
F) These jadeite double hoop & diamond pendant earrings were sold for US$971,795 to a private Asian buyer at Sotheby's.
 
  

       Quek Chin Yeow, head of Sotheby's Hong Kong Jewellery Department & deputy chairman of Sotheby's Asia, said, "Today's sale of magnificent Jewels and Jadeite, which achieved the highest total ever for a sale in this category conducted by the company in Hong Kong, demonstrated that what drives buyers and collectors in the current market is the search for perfection and rarity.        


       "Our top lots - from the highly important diamond riviere necklace composed of 50 D-colour Internally Flawless white diamonds, to the important 5.16 carat Fancy Vivid blue diamond - one of the De Beers Millennium Jewels - and the spectacular D-colour Internally Flawless white diamond pendent of 33.31 carats - provided the very special and the rare, and were the objects of vigorous competition from bidders from across Asia and the world, both private collectors and trade.

       "These results were the latest in a series of triumphs for Sotheby's Hong Kong and achieved strong prices for white diamonds, coloured diamonds, jadeite, and pearls."

 
   
  MJSA announces winners of Vision & Thinking Ahead Awards  
 
       
       Manufacturing Jewelers & Suppliers of America recently announced the winners of its annual Vision and Thinking Ahead Awards, which honor excellence in jewelry design and product development, respectively.

       MJSA Vision Awards honor design prowess and technical skill, and recognize outstanding telent in the field of jewelry design. MJSA Thinking Ahead Awards recognize products that, through "the introduction of new technology or the improvement of existing technologies, "are advancing the way in which jewelry is made and sold.

       The winners of the MJSA Vision Awards are: Design Excellence, First Place: Jennifer Jordan Park, for "Splash," a cloissonne enamel box ring. It is made from silver, 24k gold cloisonne wire, 18K and 22K gold, and enamels in various colors, with a 6x4 mm pink sapphire. Second Place: James W.Currens for "The Kailash Ruby Ring." "The ring is made from 18K yellow gold and 925 stering silver, with a 15.08 ct. sugarloaf ruby, 4.69 ct. oval cabochon ruby, 7.96 ct. brilliant cut round ruby, and 3.78 ct. t.w fancy-intense yellow diamond melee.

       Visionary Technical Solution, First Place: Christopher Duqest for a yellow sapphire and diamond ring made in 14K white and yellow gold. The ring's intricate framework was developed using a combination of computer-assisted design and high-tech rapid prototyping. It features a 3.24 ct. fine yellow sapphire and 12 diamonds, 23 ct. t.w.

       Gold Distinction, First Place:Pamela Froman for her "Royal Crush" necklace. Featuring a stylized fleur-de-lis design inspired by the domes of St.Peterburg, the necklace is made from a combination of 18K pink & yellow gold in a hand-hammered "crushed "texture, with a fire opal cabochon center stone.

Laser Distinction, First Place:Jimi Gwinn for "Tickled Pink," a tourmaline and amethyst pendant featuring 14K white gold sizing stock, casting grain, and 18K white gold wire. Second Place: Julia Behrends for the "Twist" ring, which is named for its twisting prong and rotating "rondelle" in the center of the piece. The rondelle of yellow diamonds is a seperate part with 360-degree movement. The center gemstone is a 9.52 ct. round lime citrine with a unique concave-faceted cut, set in platinum.

       Future of the Industry, First Place:Davina Rae Romansky for her "Cascading Necklace" in sterling silver which is 5" wide and 15" long.

       The winners of the MJSA Thinking Ahead Awards are:Speedwire, Glenn Manning jewelry, and SpeckFINDER HD, Dazor Manufacturing Corp.
