The Diamond (carbon) is a very common mineral. Carbon atoms, which exist plentiful below earth zone, are compressed under high pressure with very high temperature to very closed packed cubic system arrangement. Carbon (graphite) is one of the softest minerals before it is compressed under heat.It exits trough Vulcan's, cracks and pipes in earth-zone. After cooling down is crystallize to the cubic system. Diamond deposits are found in the ground within rocks and or near riverbeds, banks and terraces (alluvial). Deposits are on all continents found.
The Diamond business is one of the best-controlled one, from mining through rough sales and marketing. With the "De Beer" which started in the 18 century, which are in control of most major mining operation and worldwide public relation. The Diamond trading company (selling organization) is in control over the worldwide release, sell of rough and price structure. The rough is sold to a selected group of Diamond dealers (sight holders).
The sight holders are invited on a regular interval to buy mixed quality rough (selection not possible).
Diamond rough is cut in different part of this world in the past manly Israel, Belgium and Netherlands for all sizes. Today only top quality cut stones and stones over 30 point are cut in these countries. With few exceptions some western Diamond companies operate cutting factories in Thailand and Sri Lanka. Most of the commercial cut goods of smaller sizes are cut in India. There are problems with parcel from India, the use their own grading standard, which is not compatible with the western one. Most of the parcels mixed in clarity cut and color. All goods have to be graded and selected again.

The price is determined by the 4cs:
Carat (weight)
Color
Clarity (purity)
Cut (make)

Which are very important.
